In NSW, boating safety isn’t optional.
Since 1 June 2009, anyone aged 12 years and over operating a powered vessel capable of 10 knots or more must complete both theory and practical training to obtain a boat licence.
Even a small outboard (around 5–6hp) falls into this category.

Sea School Marine Training
Since 2002, SEA SCHOOL has successfully trained over 15,000 students. Our professional marine educators, along with a straight forward presentation, will help you to achieve a successful result in the Maritime test.
Literacy- Language and learning difficulties are not catered for. You must be able to read English to attempt the Roads and Maritime Services test. If you have reading and writing difficulties contact Roads and Maritime Services on 13 22 13 and given time, they can arrange a remedial teacher or interpreter at any Roads and Maritime Services office.
Upon completion of the training, present the Sea School Central Coast Course Completion Report, completed Logbook and your 100 points of identification along with your payment fee to a NSW Services office and obtain your boat licence. It’s that simple!

Driving a powerboat on local waterways is enjoyable and fun-
In NSW, a Power Boat Licence is required for people over 12 years of age, to operate a powered vessel, at speeds above ten knots.
With Sea School at Killarney Vale, you can join the thousands of happy boat drivers who have enjoyed our boating programs and enjoy safe boating on local waterways.
Sea School offers you more than just a boat licence course, this course is designed to develop your skills and make you a safe, capable and very confident boat driver.
This NSW Powerboat licence program includes full theory session, NSW boat licence exam and practical on-water boat driving experience, where you will complete pre-launch ramp and boat safety checks, boat launching procedures, how to don a lifejacket and physical on-water skill training, finishing up with boat retrieval back onto the boat trailer, then make road ready, to transport.
By the end of the day, you will complete all required training and have a much better understanding of the safety elements, you need to know!
The time you spend on the water with our experienced trainer, during this comprehensive program, is perfect for the person who has very little or no boat driving experience, increasing your overall knowledge and make your day on the water, safer.
To enrol, select your chosen date from the calendar below, complete the theory session and final assessment then complete the Practical training session that takes place on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

This is a complete NSW Powerboat licence program
No need for Logbooks as you will complete all practical "hands on" training.
You get more than a boat licence; you learn how to drive a boat safely.
There are minimum of three students required to run the course.
Class numbers are limited to ten to allow for complete learning.

Boat and PWC Licencing
This course is made up of the Boat Licensing Course plus practical on water boat training, along with the PWC Knowledge Test to obtain both Boat and PWC licence.
Boating & PWC Knowledge Course theory & test
This course is a step-by-step, classroom presentation led by our experienced marine educators about channel markers, navigation lights, collision regulations, boat wash, speed, compulsory safety equipment and everything you need to know, to safely drive a boat and PWC
Practical Boating
This practical boating experience is in a small group, where each participant gains skills and confidence, by spending time at the wheel of a training vessel with an outboard motor, including launching and recovery of boats as well as mooring, docking, anchoring and man overboard.
Courses are held week day evenings from 5pm, with boat practical training on a weekend afternoon from 3pm. Minimum numbers apply.
