Freediving Masks and Snorkels
Whether you're snorkelling leisurely near the surface or diving deeper on breath-hold, having reliable and comfortable gear enhances your underwater experience. Freediving masks and snorkels are essential equipment for underwater exploration and breath-holding activities.
Both the mask and snorkel should fit comfortably without leaks or discomfort, ensuring an enjoyable experience.
Consider where and how you will use the gear—different environments (cold vs. warm water, calm vs. rough seas) may require different features. Some divers prefer specific features like purge valves in snorkels or certain styles of masks (single lens vs. dual lens).
Freediving Masks are typically low-volume, meaning they hold less air space between the face and the lenses. This reduces the amount of air needed to equalise and makes them easier to clear water from.
Snorkel allows you to breathe at the surface while you are face-down in the water, conserving energy and allowing longer periods of observation or travel without lifting your head.
Snorkels include a tube with a mouthpiece and often a splash guard or valve at the top to prevent water from entering when submerged.
Snorkels are usually made of plastic or silicone, chosen for flexibility and durability.

The Mares Element freediving snorkel is equipped with a soft tube, providing correct flexibility during its use, without creating airflow interruptions.
The mouthpiece is made of hypoallergenic silicone and makes it ideal for prolonged use during breath-hold based diving excursions, including spearfishing.
The key features of the Freediving Snorkel Element are:
- Soft tube
- Ideal for prolonged use
- Ergonomic mouthpiece in hypoallergenic silicone
- The diameter and length of the tube are optimized for easy emptying and effortless natural breathing
Mares Samurai Extreme Snorkel
The Samurai snorkels shape and diameter prevents air turbulence inside the breathing tube.
The anatomical shape improves hydrodynamics, to better adapt to the contours of the face, with a comfortable silicone mouthpiece.
The new soft material improves absorption of vibrations during rapid ascents, at the same time prevents noises that could startle fish or change the position of the mask, if the snorkel bangs against rocks when hole fishing.
The new anatomical mouthpiece in hypoallergenic silicone and the soft flexible tube make this the ideal snorkel to use for long periods of time with maximum comfort.
Great snorkel for spearfishing and freediving.
